Peak District Walk
It was a warm sunny September day and just right for a day
out. Curber Edge is in the Peak District not too far from
Nottingham and most people car shared to get there. Geoff,
the organiser, didn't detail the route in advance, but everyone
was happy to go along with the route since we had all day.
The walk along the top of Curber Edge was great due to it being
a clear day. The walk was broken up with a stop at a cafe
for lunch. The day concluded with a small number sneaking
off to The Robin Hood pub before heading home.
Cocktail Night In Town
IVC hit the cocktail bars in Nottingham where the girls got
their cocktail dresses out and the boys, well, maybe didn't
wear trainers. There were some initial stutters at the
bar when it came to ordering something other than the usual
pint or G&T, but after the warm-up in the Orange Tree all
of us were ready to sample the best of Saltwater, Tonic and
China China. Every time was an adventure through the menu
followed by (sometimes) a random choice. The night
finished off the cocktail path in The Dragon, which is a
favourite amongst most members.
Rounders in the Park
What could be better on a hot summer's day than playing rounder
in the park? The IVC rounders kit has seen many weekends
out over the years since it was purchased and even though the
bat and balls are showing their age they were good for another
outing. An essential part of rounders though isn't the
playing but the eating. A full spread of snacks and drinks
were brought with some people happy to just have the picnic and
watch the games. There was the usual variation in athletic
and co-ordination abilities that just made it all the more fun,
after all it wasn't about hitting, catching, but just having a
laugh and shouting at people to run (especially when they
weren't on your own side).

Wine Club
Ah, you must be thinking. A sophisticated event held by
sophisticated people of the IVC. Indeed it was a night for
Jilly Cooper and Oz Clarke impressions, but the evening wasn't
about the bouquet of aromas, the rapture of fruit or the hint of
blossom. No, it was more the rosy cheeked ramblings mixed
with the Keith Floyd level of quaffing. Yes, this is
another of Gill's infamous wine evenings where the PPP beats
the DOC for quality. What's PPP you ask? Well you'd
have to attend one of Gill's wine nights to know. A top
night in at Gill's – best hostess ever.
Flame and Thunder — November Fire Works
What do you mean you want an alternative to the usual hotdog
and mud fireworks night?!
This must have been asked
since someone pointed to a day out at Santa Pod raceway for
bonfire night. 'Hang on a minute', you'll be thinking,
'that's just cars and smoke... and... flames from
dragsters'. Now it all makes more sense and IVC was there
to witness. The bangs and whistles from fireworks were
replaced by roars and squeals of monster dragsters. There
was even a massive bonfire lit by the rocket engine of a 5 ton
truck. Well worth the change from the usual bonfire night.
